Since the 1930s Olvera Street has been a Mexican market with colorful wooden stalls. We walked through there early, just as the merchants were setting up for the day. After wandering through the Avila house, we stopped at a stall for very good tacos al carbon.
The station is relaxing too. Look at those big, comfy art deco chairs in the waiting room. The outdoor waiting/garden area had huge trees, grassy lawn, and a tiled fountain.
While we were there some TV show (I don't know which one) was about to be filmed. Well, Chinatown, El Pueblo de Los Angeles, and Union Stations were great places to start our spring break adventure.
